BEP worked closely with two partners to bring the EAE anaerobic digestion system online:

Projects

BEP recently completed and commissioned the firm’s initial full service development venture in December of 2011, after nearly three years in the planning stages. Located in central Maine, Exeter Agri-Energy is a dual vessel, one megawatt co-digestion system with a total daily treatment volume of approximately 32,000 gallons, or approximately 150 wet tons.

Constructed in less than six months, the EAE facility has experienced tremendous success through collaboration with Biogas Energy Partners and the host dairy farm, Stonyvale Farm. BEP’s notable accomplishments on the project include successfully managing, negotiating, and securing the following items, as well as attaining several significant community and environmental achievements.

Economic:

  • 20 year fixed-rate power purchase agreement
  • $6MM in total construction and permanent loan funds with Farm Credit of Maine
  • $2.8MM of grant funds from three major sources including the USDA, the Treasury Department, and Efficiency Maine
  • Nearly $1MM three phase utility interconnection upgrade
  • Maine Class I generator certification for renewable energy credit sales
  • Lifetime solid waste permit to include all forms of clean organic waste
  • Off-farm organic waste material required to fuel 1MW combined heat & power unit
  • Approval from Maine Revenue Services avoiding over $150K of sales tax on construction materials

Social/Environmental:

  • Endorsements from federal officials, U.S. legislators, state legislative and business leaders, and several Cabinet officials of Maine Governor Paul LePage
  • Temporary job creation impact of over (24) full time construction workers with the addition of (2) full time permanent positions
  • Significant assistance sustaining Stonyvale Farms and its two dozen employees
  • Substantial manure odor reduction in the host community and a dramatically improved nutrient management program positively affecting the local watershed
  • Methane destruction on the equivalent order of removing approximately 3,000 passenger vehicles from the road each year

BEP is a vested partner and the ongoing business manager of the Exeter Agri-Energy operation. We encourage interested visitors to explore EAE’s website at www.ExeterAgriEnergy.com to learn more about the business and how Biogas Energy Partners may add value to your anaerobic digestion project. Currently, we are actively seeking a select few development engagements that meet our short and long term organization goals.
